Working Agreements Session

The ScrumMaster is the custodian of employment contracts, but the whole team has a responsibility to question if someone breaks the agreement. As the work agreements have been agreed by the team, the perception of personal attacks and confrontations is eliminated. In the spirit of transparency and continuous improvement, team members should review employment contracts from time to time and ask, „Should they be updated?“ Faced with friction between some members of the team, he opted for a 1-2-4 model[3] to discuss possible agreements. This model aims to ensure that everyone has a voice in this process: after all, the team is committed to maintaining the working agreement as the only source of truth, how people work together, provide value, take care of themselves and each other and do all that is the greatest potential of the group. The strength of the labour agreement lies in the team`s obligation to hold each other to account. Without a degree of commitment and responsibility, team members can under-perfect their own work. For this reason, the agreement should be established by the entire team, and each point equal points should be agreed by each member of the team. If a team member doesn`t support an item, remove it. The team makes its own work agreement.

Otherwise, you cannot expect full support or accountability. Your teamwork agreement must be made accessible and easy to maintain by all team members. It`s easy to forget something you`ve only seen once in a meeting. Find creative ways to get the most important elements of your agreement consistently in your team`s line of sight. One way to do this is to create a mural in the main work area where the instructions are displayed. Table 2. Questions the team responds to to reach a work agreement A working agreement is a series of common expectations that a team creates to understand how they work together and get in touch. For many teams, this is a valuable advantage.

However, the teamwork agreement becomes even more critical when team members work remotely. Depending on the team or the work phase, work agreements may vary and should be modified to reflect changes in the nature of the work or work environment. It should also be reviewed regularly and updated on the basis of learning. This story of self-discovery traced the journey of a team of geographically dispersed and culturally diverse people. He highlighted how they discovered hidden barriers to creating a better working environment for their team. They reached a „ha“ moment that helped two distant groups get involved and work as a team. Their layout was formally integrated into the team`s culture, with a series of working agreements linking them together. The following table summarizes what I learned as a coach. If I share my story, I hope it will inspire others to realize that the process of creating work agreements has uncovered opportunities for collaboration and guidance that have helped a distributed team deliver better value.

Please note that if I cannot disclose the name of the company, I can only report that it is a financial services company based in Texas. The names of all parties have been changed to protect privacy. It is important to keep agreements at a high level and to focus on values, not specifics. For example: „Be at the sitting from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m.,“ can be converted to „Spot for Assemblies.“ Add proposals to the car park that are too specific or not related to employment contracts.
